Improving Patient Outcomes: Nutrition

The prevalence of malnutrition in patients who are hospitalized ranges from 20 to 50%, depending on the screening tool and diagnostic criteria used. Malnutrition increases morbidity, mortality, healthcare costs, readmission rates, and lengths of stay. Identifying patients at risk for poor nutritional status is essential to provide early interventions that support their clinical course, ultimately improving patient outcomes. The goal of this course is to educate the healthcare team in the acute care setting on improving patient outcomes through the early identification of malnutrition using interprofessional collaboration. This course will use reflective thinking, scenarios, and review questions to promote active learning.
